There are many gold mines in Europe and even in country members of the EU like, Sweden (8 gold mines of Boliden, Blaiken Mine and Svartliden), Finland (Pahtavaara mine), Spain (2 gold mines of Rio Narcea), Greenland (Nalunaq mine), Ireland (Omagh mine), Portugal with mining projects and gold exploration. Also there are gold exploration projects in other countries like Italy and Slovakia..

In the Balkans in Bulgaria the Chelopech mine is under operation and the Krumovgrand gold mine is expected to get the permit, in Romania, it is expected to have the Rosa Montana gold mine licensed for operation and finally, in Serbia it is announced that three state’s mines have been conceded to a gold company for further exploration. The same was done recently in Kosovo.

In the adjacent Turkey there are the Ovacik and Kisladag gold mines in operation and other three projects, Efemcuru, Copler and Mastra were licensed to get into construction. There are currently 70 active gold projects in Turkey.
